Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few answers to some frequently asked questions you might have. If you don't see it here please feel free to email us or use our on-line comments area.

How far in advance should I look and hire a DJ?
You should pick your entertainment out as early as 18 months & as late as 9 months in advance to your wedding to ensure that you have the entertainment of your first choice. Price should not be a main issue in determining an entertainment company.  Look for quality, dependability, performance, and the ability to work and accommodate to ones needs should also factor in on your decision.

How many hours of entertainment do I need?
One should not be overly concerned as to how many or little hours you hire a entertainment company for, but to make sure all your needs are taken care of.  When you have a DJ and/or band for the entire evening, they are totally set up before you & your guests arrive. You usually get your introductions, cocktail hour music, dinner music, cake cutting music, etc. all included.  Most hall/banquet rentals for a wedding packages are for 5, 5 1/2, and 6 hours.  Some entertainers setup during the first hour or two of the event, which can be disruptive to you & your guests.

Do I need lighting and what are the types?
Many DJ’s will state that they put on a great light show.  The word great in this case is open for discussion.  Most DJ's may only have 4- par cans that flash to the beat of the music, with sometimes a strobe light.  A good or better lighting system may consist of all or most of the following: 10-pin spots or par cans, intelligent lighting, special effect lights, strobe lights, black or mars lights, & a fog machine.  Lighting may or may not be included on ones package but its much better to have them.  Lights help set the mood, light up a darkened floor & they are cool and fun to watch.  See lighting for more information.

What about pricing, how much do I have to spend?
Its always best to have a contract with your entertainment company that you pick.  Once you have signed, your price is locked in unless there are changes that arise later that are unforeseen.  As stated above its always better to book your date with a company as early as 18 months in order not to pay the price increase that most companies are sure to come across.  See our pricing section.

Who performs the actual event?
You should have the DJ and/or singer that you hire on your wedding night, unless other wise noted.  You should be comfortable with the sound choice that you have made. Nobody likes an unexpected surprise or stranger at your event.

We at Mr. DJ hope that this can help you out with your search for an entertainment company.
